Tuition + Financial Support

Note: Per WA House Bill 1079, undocumented students who graduated from a Washington state high school (or earned the equivalent) are considered as “residents” for purposes of higher education, which permits them to pay in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities. More information available here.
Financial support through the Department of Landscape Architecture
The Department offers merit-based scholarships for selected incoming students.
The Department also offers a limited number of teaching assistantships to graduate students. In general, students are selected after completing the first year of their degree. Research assistantships are also offered based on current faculty funding. A limited number of Department scholarships are also available and awarded each spring.
Western Regional Graduate Program for Reduced Tuition
The Master of Landscape Architecture program along with other programs in the College of Built Environments is part of the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). This makes our MLA degree program available at resident tuition rates to students from the following 14 states and 2 UW territories: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, South Dakota, Oregon, Wyoming, Utah, Guam, and Northern Mariana Islands.

Financial Aid
The Office of Student Financial Aid administers several federal, state and private financial aid programs created to help students pay tuition and fees for their education. Assistance is available in the form of grant aid, scholarships, loans, and work opportunities. Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for information on the programs, eligibility criteria and application procedures.
To begin the financial aid process at the University of Washington, please visit the UW Office of Student Financial Aid website. For priority consideration, your FAFSA must be received by the federal application processor by the University’s deadline of January 15. You must file a FAFSA every year and applications will be available online for the following year starting January 1. Work-Study Opportunities
The Department of Landscape Architecture and College of Built Environments employ students in a variety of capacities. For employment in the Department, preference is given to students who are Work-Study eligible.
To qualify for Work-Study jobs, students must demonstrate financial need and have a Work-Study award as part of your overall financial aid award. To determine work-study eligibility, a FAFSA must be submitted.
All questions regarding work-study eligibility should be directed to the UW Financial Aid Office.
Financial Aid for Minority Graduate Students
Graduate Diversity Fellowships are available to students whose individual experiences and/or academic interests will bring diversity to scholarly perspectives and endeavors, and to the academic community.
